I was shopping the other day and the store had a sign on a bath soap counter that said, "discontinued." The bath soap was on clearance and I wasn't sure why it was discontinued. Doesn't that normally mean there's something wrong with it or is it just the company going out of business?

Discontinued can mean MANY things. In stores, it usually means that it wasn't a BIG seller and they are getting rid of that line, or color. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with the product. It doesn't mean the company is going out of business either. It just has to do with $$$ , the almighty dollar.

No, stores often stock a item for a big sale.After the sale they mark it discontinued, ( no longer will
be stocked. ) There usualy a off brand name,or even dented .
The store is still making a profit,as they buy wholsale
The store is still responable for it's safe contient

Generally this happens when a company stops making profit on an item or has introduced a newer version of it and want people to use it instead.

discontinued means that the particular item isnt going to be produced anymore something else will replace it or nothing at all will replace it.

they stopped making that soap and they're selling it "clearance" because they don't want to get stuck with it.

It just means that that certain store won't be carrying that certain product anymore.
