I want a program that will rid of pop-ups, spyware, adware, protect my computer from virus.. perform routine scans, tell me what's going on with my computer, etc... Anyone have a GREAT program that does all this and is TRUSTFUL... I don't want something that will have continous pop-ups asking me to let this in, deny this, accept this, etc.. I can't stand that!

I am not cheap... I am very aware of how virus protections works, etc... I have paid $ 50 to $80 bucks for various programs. I only recently asked a reliable computer person in my community about virus protections and his answer to me was "why pay when you can get various protection for free." So why not? It isn't that I am cheap - actually I am smart to research various products and try them before slamming down money for a product that is mediocre. So to the people who decided to apply to my question and call me cheap or "lazy" for not wanting to pay... you must be made of money and not have the ability to research products and ask honest opinions of people who have a great product to share and SHARE their experience of computer software programs. AND for the other people who have responded with honest and informational replies.. Thank you for sharing and I hope you continue to share great and not so great computer software for virus,etc.. with the yahoo answers community.

Let us start off with anti-virus program..the one i like and it is free is avg.avg is easy to use and scan is fast.and it does a wonderful good of removing virus. It is free to download and it will update twice a day.Now for spy-ware there are four programs:ad-aware from lavasoft, spy bot search and destroy, and the third on is avg anti-spyware program and ewido.
For a program that will scan your computer i don't that there is a program like that.I know that if there was a program like that i would have download it and install it.
Also if you like to whatch on you computer.Try this site www.labrats.tv thy are hosted by Andy Walker and Sean Carruthers.Thy have lots and lots of good information.
I would go into the start program(start>run>msconfig>click on start up tab)then i would star to with 1st one and type it into google and chose the site that give good information about it and use that to decided if it is a portant program for keeping you pc running smooth or to turn it off.then move on to next one and so on.once you get done with that restart you computer and once you are back at desk top.Do a 3 finger salute(control alt delete) and check your processes. You will be surprise at that.
i have also heard of another program that the name of it is secunia person software inspector.I have not give that a try
yet but from what i have read that is pretty good.
So i wish all the best luck and happy computing.

those you hit upon on the information superhighway are no longer unfastened or they're do no longer paintings. you won't be able to get the two there. fairly seem interior the Sunday paper commercials for staples and compusa. they're continually having sales the place you get an entire rebate on a real anti-virus software like McAfee or Norton. that's the main suitable place to get them. by the way the companies that make those courses are continually updating them so as that they in no way fail to have data that hide the main recent viruses. those on the information superhighway have not got the money to constantly create data to combat new viruses.

You can get McAfee VirusScan Plus for free. It has 3-in-1 anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall protection and has everything that you have mentioned. Actually it's not free, but you can get it for free from AOL. All you need is a free AOL account (you don't have to download anything of AOL's other junk material, so don't worry!!).

Nothing is free. Anything that doesn't require money will come with spyware or spam.

Look and see if you are already paying for protection from your ISP. Check their website. Maybe all you have to do is download it. If not, bite the bullet and buy one.

heard that AVG is good

http://www.grisoft.com/

however, free ones have less resources (money) so they may not find all viruses out there, or be able to get the virus out (meaining it keeps poping up)
