fill the tank anof so that you can run 125 gallons worth of filters in it build a rock structure out of the water or buy a floating turtle dock and your turtle should be just fine for a couple months however all turtles need a special uvb light that runs from $23 to $99 over the tank and a $20 basking light on the rocks that are out of the water to have proper shell development and the more filters you can get the better because turtles produce a lot of wast and without filters you'll be changing the water every other day and pulling out all the rocks and hand washing them once a month
but the most important thing for your turtle is water to swim in and fish to chase and eat for exercise

Yes, but they can grow very big, so at some point you're going to have a huge-*ss RES on your hands! If you have fish in the tank (I'm assuming it's just an empty tank going spare, but am not sure by reading your message) they will get eaten! Good luck to you! I thought this video from youtube was cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB4E3469ETc
This is not mine, I just thought it might help you with your tank setup. All the best!

I have 2 red-ears that are about 6 inches long. I used to have them in a 50-gal tank with guppies and goldfish. They ate the goldfish immediately, but pretty much left the guppies alone. Now I have them in a tank by themselves. NOTE: They love orange or red fish!

Yes, PROVIDED:

1) it has a way to get completely out of the water

2) it has a basking lamp over the land area

3) you can control the water/land temperature to keep it with the proper range - they need to have the warmth to digest their food

4) you consider that any fish you have in the tank are feeders

Not if you like your fish!! Seriously, though, if your turtle will have something to bask on, this is a great setup. HOWEVER.. make sure the water is filtered, as turtles will muck it up pretty quickly!
