Ok, so I figured out that last step after watching an origami tutorial thing on youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F8ajh_DDYs&mode=related&search= ) but the step at 3:49 confounds me now...

It looks like you have made a wing on one side but not the other.
In the crane you need to repeat all moves on two sides (or four) except making the head.
You need to undo the folds that narrows the one end, and fold the other wing up.
