what kind of clothing? how many are we talking here? the best way is to produce it outside US. but that means quantity. most of the stuff in the US are made in China, India or Indonesia. email me for more info.

Don't remember where I've seen the adds, but the places that print 100 t-shirts for 100 bucks is a good start. I believe that's one design and just 1 shirt is like 3$. 20 is 2$. 50 is 1$. Anyways, you can make 10 shirts with 10 different designs to get your product out. If your looking to showcase your fashion talents, you'd have to set up a boutique, usually at a public location that's common so it's easier to advertise. This, of course, costs money to rent the place and money to advertise your show. Most people know someone who knows someone and therefor have more tools in place, but they still put forth a lot of money. Most don't succeed, but I'm not trying to be negative. If you have the skills, people will come. Good luck!

Go to a large city or university library to the business section and talk to the business librarian. He or she can point you to directories of manufacturers in all sorts of catagories. However, if you have shopped for clothes in the last decade, you know most clothes sold in America are made overseas for the cheaper labor costs. Are you prepared to deal with this issue?
Too, if you find a company to make the clothes, do you have a plan to make the commercial patterns in all the standard sizes, a vendor lined up for the fabrics and notions, a fulfillment source to pack and ship the clothing, a line of credit to pay for everything up to this point, a venue for selling it and someone to market the finished clothes?
Perhaps the short term plan could be to design for an existing clothing company and networking the resources to launch your own line once you learn the system.
Or you might find a talented tailor or seamstress locally who could make your designs that you could sell through a local boutique or craft's gallery.
Why don't you go to some small, owner operated boutiques in your town and talk to them about how to pursue your plan. Take some of your sketches or a few samples and get their feedback about whether your ideas are salable. They are going to be more in touch with clothing companies who are smaller and more open to new ideas than the big corporate companies.
This isn't to talk you out of your hopes, but to point out realistically, there's more to it than just making clothes.

O.K. Here is goes. Just a few things to keep in mind.
First you need to know how much is the cost per unit.
$5.00 a unit??? does it include hang tags, company label, price tags, bar code and polybag.
Will it be shipped all together or will it be boxed by style, size or combination of both.
Then you need to add your shipping cost.
the cost manufacturing company will charge to ship items to you.
Freight or airway?? (FOB) airway is more expensive but you will get your items quicker.
Then there is customs duty.
Depends on the fabric and customs code.
Usually $16.5% of the invoice. but can go up to 19% depending on the country you are importing from.
If you are ordering more than $2,000 you will also, need a broker as customs will not release your items without an entry on invoices more than $2000 and a broker will provide the customs entry forms as well as making sure your order is released from customs.
So, you will need to add $150-$200 for brokers fees.
See http://www.cbp.gov for details.
Then you will have to add expenses....
Cost of internet service if you are selling on line.
Cost of electricity, etc...etc... (Cost of running your company)
Cost of storage if any.
Payroll (paying employees if any or paying yourself)

You get the picture.

I hope that this has helped.
