My childs father is a criminal and has been in and out of jail for the last 6 years. I have now met a man that I intend to marry and was wondering how I could have my childs fathers parental rights relinquished. He has no contact orders against him, has never met my child and is in no way a good role model. How would I go about this???

Well, aside from a consent order (which would of course require the fathers consent) you could petition the courts for adoption by your new man. Some simple affidavit evidence and the likely fact that "absent dad" wouldn't make a stink you could do it for aprox $2K to $4K depending on where you live....but you do need a lawyer.

Call around and search "lawyer referral" and your state/province. You can often get decent discounts from lawyer referral services and it isn't hard to find a lawyer in your area that will take monthly payments on retainers and fees if you aren't afraid to ask. When calling around try to boil your matter down to simple facts (maybe 6 sentances) and state you are looking for a lawyer who can take post dated payments..you won't get someone immediately, but a dedicated lawyer will call you back if you try a few places.

Get an attorney and go for it. Only a judge can make this decision.
