1. "r" = -14. 10 + 5 is 15, you'll need to subtract to get it to equal 1. That would make the number you're looking for a negative number. 15 + -14 = 1
2. "p" = 10. 15 - 6 = 9 You need to add 10 to get both side to equal

3. I'm not understanding how you have that one written.

Were you paying attention in class?
1: r+5+10=.1
Gather like terms:
r + 15 = 1
Subtract the 15 from both sides:
r = 1 - 15
So: r = -14

2: -6 + p -15 = 19
So: p - 21 = 19
Or: p = 19 + 21 or 40

3: b
__ =8
-12+26
I can't make sense of this one.

1. r+5+10=1
r+15=1 (combine the like terms)
-15 -15 (subtract 15 to both sides)
the +15 and -15 cancel each other out and 1-15=-14
so r=-14

2. -6+p-15=19
p+(-21)=19
p-21=19
+21 +21
p=40

3. b
___=8
-12+26

i dont understand this one is that how it is written in the book or whatever its on??

For number 1 you need to take .1 and subtract 10 and 5 to get r= -14.9
For number two you take 19+15- -6 = 28

You are basically required to find the value of the "alphabets" in each equation. Lets look at them and see what we can do.

1.
r + 5 + 10 = 1

Now what you do is have all the "KNOWNs" on one side and "UNKNOWNs" in one side. remember that when changing sides, the sign is changed... so from the above, we get:

r = 1 - 5 - 10
solving, we get
r = -14
Simple, isn't it?

Why don't you try the same for the other two as well.

Good Luck!
