For my japanese class I have to write a letter talking about a future plan to travel to Kyushu. When do you think is the best month/season to go in? As in which season has the best range of activites to do eg festivals etc? At the moment I'm tossing up between april (with the cherry blossom festival/the nicer weather) or december (with christmas, new years and the snow).

Here are some sites about the festivals in each prefecture.
Just for information, in the late summer begins the season of the typhoons(hurricanes), which is not something very pleasant. Early summer, although not so rich of festivals, can help you enjoy the great nature, shopping and leisure in Yoshinogari park, Oita hot springs park, Hakata night life,Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki, beautiful sea shore in Miyazaki. In Yoshinogari you can make your own ancient style bracelette!

Spring comes kind of early to Kyushu. I remembering wearing shorts to Cherry blossom parties. Between March and April is good because its kind of warm but not too humid. Plus it is before Golden Week (May) and travel within Japan can be difficult.

I was born and raised in Fukuoka, the northern Kyushu.
We don't have much snow in winter... Probably once every several years, we have snow about 4 inches, but that's it. Nothing exciting happens in December in Kyushu... I don't think...

In April, like other places in Japan, you can see beautiful cherry blossoms in the beginning of April. And it's nice to visit that time.

There are two HUGE festivals in Fukuoka.
One is Hakata Yamagasa, which is held in July, and the other is Hakata Dontaku on May 3 and 4.
Both are very famous and well-known in Japan.

I've never been to Japan, but I look forward to it. I would like to go there in April, first because it's my birthday, and I always pictured Japan as the Cherry Blossom country. I think those pink trees look gorgeous in April.

If you watch the anime Bleach, you would know how pretty cherry blossoms are. Captain 6, Byakuya Kuchiki's bankai is
"Senbonzakura" meaning something like Cherry blossoms.
