Identification and ratio information is provide below. These grooves are typically cut across the clutch spline on the input shaft:

If you want to get wip lash when you stomp the peddle go with a 4:11 rear,if you want top end fast go with a 2:73 rear.

sh752 has the correct answer. The close ratio (one groove) 2.20 first gear is only good with 3.73 and lower rear axle gears, othwise the first gear is too high.
You will be much happier with the 2.52 first gear

2.2 to 1 ratio in 1st gear---good all around gears I like are 3.55 ----3.73 is a little too much for fuel economy but it's your choice depending on usage and vehicle weight, horsepower.
