wow- I can't believe you went through 40 weeks of pregnancy and never bothered to research what goes on during labor & childbirth.

OK- right now your baby's head is pressing on your cervix and breaking little blood vessels.

As the cervix (deep opening inside of you) begins to prepare for birth, it will break more blood vessels and the mucous plug will release, looking like snot in your panties, probably with blood streaks.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. People who go into labor with no knowledge of what to expect usually end up scared out of their wits and getting a Csection because they've let the doctors give them every drug and intervention that exists, and the reality is that nature can do the work herself, but doctors get paid more when you allow them to mess with you more. Have fun with that.

I hope next time you decide to have a baby you learn about how flawlessly the body naturally handles the end of a pregnancy, and learn to appreciate every amazing part of the process instead of not even knowing what to expect.

"can't help but worry." If you were educated on the matter, you would not be worried either. Don't worry now- the doctor will handle it all for you, don't even think. don't ask questions, just lay down and let them handle it, you're a doctor's dream come true.

Call your doctor. Spotting during the 3rd trimester can indicate labor coming on. Make sure you monitor baby's movements.
