Government is a form of insurance for society. It regulates and promotes social contracts (I won't kill or steal from you if you promise not to kill or steal from me). Without government, there would be no society. Too much government and you have no freedom. Making it a necessary evil.

It wont get that far, just teach them Chinese, they;ll need it. Unless the government can work out the "prisoners for payment" plan before too long And, as far as the Constitution goes, it doesn't. Bush vetoed it. You haven't heard? We have no more "rights". The "patriot act", and "asset forfeiture" laws took care of that. And, yeah, that's the whole key to the "stimulus package" by the time the crap gets too thick, they figure they'll have been long gone. Let someone else worry about it. The first one was a disaster, why not try it again? besides forgetting who they gave the money to, they got took by 79 billion in crap bonds, or something like that. And, besides not everyone got a piece of the last one, got to make sure all the senators get some, otherwise they won't okay the next one. And, we all realize that the interest on all this money is going to the ones that the "stimulus" is going to right? The federal reserve is tied to all those other banks, or rather those other banks are the federal reserve. And the federal reserve can print money from nothing, no backing, nada.

Quite simply, because it is.
Anarchy just cannot work on a large scale.

"Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer." - Thomas Paine, Common Sense 1776

"It has been said that all Government is an evil. It would be more proper to say that the necessity of any Government is a misfortune. This necessity however exists; and the problem to be solved is, not what form of Government is perfect, but which of the forms is least imperfect." - James Madison, to an unidentified correspondent 1833

"Why has government been instituted at all? Because the passions of men will not conform to the dictates of reason and justice without constraint." - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 15

"Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it." - John Adams, Thoughts on Government 1776

"If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself." - James Madison, Federalist No. 51 February 8, 1788

"[A] wise and frugal government...shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." - Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address March 4, 1801

"Yes. The economy only works when money moves around. For eight years Bush directed all the money in the pockets of the rich, while everyone else staying in the game with credit....when the credit ran out, the economy stopped. The only way to get the money flowing again is for the govt to spend it, because all the Bush billionaires arent." WHOA!!!!! WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! This stimulus package is doing nothing but putting more money in the pockets of these top CEO's so they can buy their private jets and $400 a night hotel rooms. This package isn't necessary. Maybe it would help if it actually went to the people but it's not. How is putting money into the top people's pockets going to help the economy? It isn't....
