Mercedes might be a popular girl name, but it is disgusting. It sounds like a stripper, period.

It's cute, I do agree, Mercedes is a common name, I've heard it a lot, specially with Spanish people. My mothers ex-boss's wife was named Mercedes, her nickname was Merci. I had a friend who's little sister was named Renee.
I think both names are cute, and they go well together. Don't ask people for opinions, some will like it, and some wont. All that matters is that your sister is happy with her decision, and that her family supports hers, other than that, tell her to close her ears to negative remarks, because all that it will cause, is confusion and uncertainty about her decision. If she's happy and she likes the name, that is all that matters. Doesn't matter what names you choose, there will always be at least one person that will have something negative to say about it.
Go with your gut instinct, forget everyone else.
I wish you, your sister, and your future niece/nephew the best of everything. Which ever name she chooses will be beautiful.

Mercedez I'm not crazy about...although you're saying the whole car thing is old school, this name will always be compared to the car!!
it's like naming your child Lexus & Porshe

I know tonz of Mercedez which makes me not like the name because ive grown up with a common name and will hate that forever...and i dont like the name renee

I love the name Mercedes, but really dislike the spelling "Mercedez." It doesn't look phonetically correct.
I also dislike the name Renee - I think it's too overused.

i think it's a pretty name!
people just need to get over the fact a car is named that... i mean that doesn't matter cuz people should be able to name their child anything they want :)
