Its newsworthy because Blackwater is a major contractor to the United States Government. When these guys do wrong its giving a black eye to our government and military.
I have mixed feelings about the use of a company like Blackwater. Those guys are getting paid over $100,000 a year to do jobs our soldiers are capable of doing. Our soldiers who are barely making over minimum wage.
Thats just wrong.
EDIT:
To Cowboydoc, there is a MAJOR DIFFERENCE in between a civilian contractor working as an electrician in Iraq and a security/soldier employee of Blackwater USA. They are doing two very different jobs. Blackwater handles security, they are a security force. A militia - a army for hire. They dont get into any sort of maintenance work. Simply bodyguards is all.

Soccer mom is wrong in several ways: my grandson is there as an electrician. He put in his time there in the Air Force and, in fact was the first to go into Basra when the base was Taken, I have the very battle flag, the first one, that flew over the base.
Now, by the way, he makes over 125 a year and, he has no protection, he carries no weapon, becaues he's there as an civilian, He works with people that he has to watch every night and day. He would make the same wages here as an master electrician. My son-in-law-does.
He feels that he's helping the Iraqi people with getting electricity, something they have never had, he wires there homes, there streets, there cities. He is under protection from the rebels and is always under threat.
Why he is there ? he has three beautiful kids here and a wife, he says he feels he has a duty to mankind for his freedom in the United States. I told him BS let someone else do it. Let some one else put in there time over there. He said this year is his last but, he feels satisfied now.
So, Miss soccer mom, what have you done for your country, or what has your family done for your country, I apologize if I'm wrong but, don't put them all down for being there, they all are not there for frivolous reasons. We worry greatly about him.
I put in two years in 'Nam and thought that was it for freedom, but, my dad said that about Europe too. Who will say that about the next one.

It is far more so that O.J. or Brittany. Specifically it may shed some much needed light on what goes on behind the media's limited reporting in Iraq.
