Hey bud, Yes it is there nature to do just that. You are taking away the attention as they must be the center of attention at all times..So what you can do is the next time that she is really interested in a show ............have a conversation with her and see just how she likes it..........it works.Bob.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with you if you can't multi-task. Men and women ARE different. Our brains are wired differently. Women are wired to multi-task for domestic purposes, whereas men are wired more for manual labor per se. Let me try to explain in a way that is understood. Women are social creatures. Used to be that women stayed home with the children and therefore had to deal with more than one person at a time while the man went out and hunted/worked and that was a single task and needed concentration on that single task to accomplish and couldn't be disturbed by distractions or he and his family wouldn't eat. Both roles and wiring of the brain are equally important.

I wouldn't do this personally as you're not going to get the person's undivided attention for a start, especially if it's an important issue you have to discuss. But I do know of some women AND MEN who do this. So I think it's just a case of some people need to learn there is a time and a place for everything..

Depends on how much attention you give them throughout the day. If you do not see her all day until you get home from work, she may just want to want to talk about how your day went. And if you are coming in and going straight toward the television or playstation, she may be upset because you seem to be more interested in that than visiting with her. It's kind of a balancing act. You have to know when she is ready to talk and she needs to know you need your "quiet" time .

I guess we don't know how to behave. I think it's kind of crazy myself. My Mother's husband has seen every episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger," a dozen times, but he can't be talked to/interrupted when it's on. I think you need to establish ground rules or set up a TV room and go sit in there by yourself. Personally, I think people are more important than a crazy old TV show or movie. I can see if it's a play off game or something, by geez, get a TV.

The games are boring, have no breaks, she has something to say, so says it. Maybe you need to say - "Hey, I'm going to start doing this right now and won't be available for a conversation. If it is important, interrupt. If not, write it down so you don't forget, and I'll be yours for conversations as soon as this ends."

I'm on your side with this, I don't like people yapping while I'm trying to watch a good movie. My guess would be that they can't sit still for long periods of time.
