The cylinder head is aluminum, and the plug threads are in bad shape. How hard is it to install Timeserts? Any tips on this?

They're pretty easy to install if the head is off the car and obviously, harder with the head on and sometimes not possible without removing items in the way or jacking the motor. Main thing is to coat the tap with grease to catch any metal shavings when tapping the plug hole and make sure it's going in straight---use a tap guide if possible...run the tap in and out a couple times to make sure the threads are good, thread in the insert and make absolutely sure you don't let any chips or metal pieces fall into the plug hole otherwise you have to pull the head...just take your time and tap a little at a time, remove the tap, clean and regrease. Follow the instructions for putting sealer on the threads for tapered seat plugs.
We used them a lot in our dealer shop for plug hole repairs and they worked very well.
