Hi, just like many other drunk people roaming the streets of Manhattan, I got a ticket for public urination. I was only in town for the weekend, I live in Virginia and have a Florida license. I clearly cannot return to New York to pay the ticket, so I am wondering if I can pay it online or over the phone, or should I pay it at all. If I don't live or plan to live in New York, do I even have to pay it (assuming I don't do this again!) and if I don't what are the consequences? Oh ya, I also lost the ticket! Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Better pay the ticket; otherwise it could lead to a court date (which you won't be able to attend) and then a bench warrant issued.
Do you remember which agency issued the ticket? It was probably the NYPD so call them. They will have the information.

If you do not respond to the ticket, the worst case scenario is that, eventually, a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest. Not a huge deal (they don't go out there looking for people with bench warrants, generally), however, if you ever find yourself in NYC again, and your license is requested by law enforcement, if the bench warrant has been issued, you will probably be arrested. Try going to http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycgov/?front_door=true and see if there is a way to get a copy of the summons so you may pay it or fight it- as far as I know, the only summonses you can dispute online are parking tickets. You can also try NYC 311- but check with local listings as to how to access this information line form outside the five boros. Good luck!

If you don't pay it, there will be a warrant issued. They won't extradite you across state lines for that, but if you ever, ever get stopped in New York for any infraction, or even a spot check, you will be arrested, which will suck if it happens to be a Friday night. I would find a way to pay it, rather than be publicly embarassed some unknown date in the future. So, if you live in Virginia, why don't you have a Virginia licence, pray tell?

You need to pay your ticket even if you don't live there your record could be damaged they have your name and date of birth!!! NY DMV is a pain to deal with you have to figure out where to call and then you are on hold forever!!!!! they will be able to tell you the ticket number once you give them your name and date of birth.

It's impossible for them to trace tickets like that out of state. Even if you lived in the state it would be a long time before they filed through every other similar ticket to get to yours. By the time they've come to yours, they're not going to take the time to find you out of state. There is no extradition policy for public urination.
Don't pay it.

Just remember: don't bend over to pick your soap up if you drop it in the shower where you are going.
Just kidding. But if you did the crime why are you even asking if you should even pay a ticket for it? Is it worth risking a bench warrant that might haunt you on your next vacation/trip?

So you should get a ticket.. in fact maybe two. The fact that you don't live there and you are still messing it up, should get you a good stiff fine.
If you can't control your liquor and you do stupid things.. then pay for it. I think you are disgusting to even complain about it.

It's a minor violation, just pay it so it won't haunt you. Call the NYPD and explain that you lost the ticket. I presume they have your name & address. Things like this can bite you in the butt down the road.
