What [in your opinion] is the meaning of life? I know thats a very broad question. But I have my own opinions I'd like to hear someone else's.

I really doubt that we are capable of knowing that. Life is too messy, and noisy. It hurts, delights, confounds. That's what we know, and don't know.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Philosophers, Scientists, Theologians, and Psychiatrists have argued this question to the depths and have never produced an answer. why? There is none. We can know our purpose in life but the meaning of life? You will know the meaning of life after death; not before.

i dont exactly know what the meaning of life is. my theory on it is this though (i am a Catholic and I believe in God and to those of you who aren't religious or dont believe the same things I do please understand these are my beliefs and i dont want to offend anyone if i somehow manage to); from the time you are born to the end you are put on the earth by God to serve one purpose...to find out the meaning of life. it is a long journey..and no matter how long it takes you have to face all the hardships and all the challenges you are faced with until you come up with the conclusion to this "big problem" God sent you with. i also believe that when you have figured out the true meaning it is your time to go because whatever your mission was (either you were a doctor put on this earth to save many people or a doctor/scientist put on the earth to find a cure for something) you have completed it and God is ready for you to essentially return to Him.

I think that the meaning of life is happiness. The reality of life is based on many theories that are unproven, so I feel that life is whatever you want it to be. The meaning comes from ones own perspective. And I think that if you are happy nothing should really matter.

There is no meaning, it just is. We have a hard time with chaos so we try to put a meaning to everything. Making connections where none exist, seeing omens in a random thing or happening.

I know that you probably have a different prospective, but I believe the meaning of life is to serve God. He put us here to serve him, and it is not like he is forcing us to or anything, but it is also fun serving him. He created us to worship Him. Our purpose is to tell others about Him and try to bring them to Heaven with us. I know that you may not understand, so if you want more info just e-mail.

Reproduction.

You are not a soul, you are matter, nothing else. It's not pessimistic, it's actually the realization that's made me most happy in my life.
