I was very lucky. I used the Bradley method and had a completely natural drug free birth.
I began labor on a Friday night and delivered on Sunday afternoon. The contractions started off just as an uncomfortable menstral like cramps. I was able to sleep most of the night, only waking a few times.
On Saturday I contracted all day. I went for a walk, baked, had a friend over but every few minutes I would have to stop, relax my body and take some deep breathes.
Saturday night I was unable to really sleep. I would doze and a contraction would wake me. Not unbearable painful but definitly THERE.
I arrived at the hospital 20 minutes before my son was born.
At the end there was the overwhelming need to PUSH, like the feeling you get with a BM. There was a lot of pressure, but FOR ME the pain was not unbearable.
It was an amazing experience and I was ready to do it again!

Contractions aren't bad at first. Then they get bad. Then they get horrible horrible bad. The doc gave me some med called Stadol (know I didn't spell that right). It is like being really drunk. That helped. Then you have to push. I pushed for 3 1/2 hours. That wasn't bad because by that time they broke over and gave me an epidural. My water broke 20 hours before I gave birth. I was having contractions way before that. Unfortunately, it wore off. I could feel my right side. It wasn't too bad though. I guess it is different for everyone. But it is worth it. That day of pain brought me the greatest joy of my life.

In 1985, they did not give me an epidural. I was in labor from Friday nite after supper until Sunday afternoon. They delivered my son by C section finally after the obstetrician made fun of me for being in so much pain that I asked my husband to call my mother (she had 8 babies). Pain Pain Pain! My son was stuck crooked and was wrapped up in his umbilical cord. I could have never had him on my own. I was in such bad shape, I could not turn myself or walk for 2 days. The nurses were wonderful. He talked terrible about me to the health dept nurse when he called to have a mother well baby check. The obstetrician did not realize he was talking to my sister who was a nurse at the health dept. He was just an a$$
I was too young to know they all dont act that way. He treated me like dirt.

that's a HARD question. I have 2 kids and they were both different. Do you mean labor pains or the actual pushing the baby out? Or afterwards? Its all painful. It feels like you are pushing out a HUGE poop. It hurts like a MOTHER and its an immense amount of pressure but very hard to push out which makes it all the more painful. The labor pains are what is worse. Just imagine a baby making its way down the middle of your body. THAT is painful...

Oh dear Lord it hurts more than words describe. When i told them i wanted an eperdule(sp?) it was too late!! Ahhhh thinks for bringing back those memories lol. Seriously though as soon as you hold that little baby in your arms all the pain goes out the window *sniffle*.

I dont know how to describe it I wasnt focusing on anything but seeing my baby no pain or anything they said push I pushed when she was out all I wanted to do was to look at her and hold her and say "this is my baby" everything else didnt matter! I guess its a wonderful thing, at least to me!
Plus my babies were little babies ( one was 8lbs and the second was 7lbs) but I think the contractions were the worst!

it is the most peaceful time of your life- what - are you kidding? IT HURTS !!!!!!! Major pain in your butt & back- feels like you have to take the largest poop in your life-, but after the baby head/shoulders make it through- its over, and well worth it. I just hope you have a quick labor- good luck-- i had 4. (not at the same time)

Contractions are like menstural cramps except like a million times worse, because your muscles are pushing this big baby down......Burning, Pressure, GET IT OUT!!..LMAO!!! But afterwards it was all totally worth it!! I was really scared with my 3rd, but all went well. You totally forget about all the work and pain you just went through because your reward, there is just nothing like it!!!
