A Psychiatrist is a physician (doctor) who specializes in mental disorders and has the legal right to prescribe drugs and perform other medical treatments normally associated with a doctor.

A Psychologist is a person who studies Psychology but not medicine. A Psychologist is usually a PhD but not necessarily. He or she treats the patient through dialogue and other non-medical treatments. A Pyschologist has no legal right to prescribe drugs or do invasive procedures.
