(sigh) I am. In 1983 I met a woman, let's call her Bette (not her real name). I knew nothing about her, but within a minute I was very interested. Over the next few weeks I got to know her better and my initial feelings only intensified. We had one date. At the end of the date, she gave me the best kiss I have ever had; it was very aggressive. I lost my composure and blurted out that I liked her so much and that it was from the first moment that we met. We had already arranged another date, but she came by a couple days later and cancelled it. I got the message. From 1987 to 2001, we lived many, many miles apart and did not see or hear from each other. Then, I was to be in her area for a meeting and got in touch. It turned out that she was not married. When we met again, all the old feelings rushed back. We spent a couple days together. At the end of it, we had a very frank talk about the possibility of our having a relationship. She only had negative things to say about that and had many reasons why we would not. Earlier during the visit, she had told me that she likes her work more than she likes men. I suspect that she is gay and does not feel comfortable telling me. Shortly after our visit, she stopped returning my e-mails because I was too emotional about her. Bette was one of the top soccer players in the US. She played for the 1983 national title, and if women's soccer had been part of the 1984 Olympics, she would have been in the Olympics. Unfortunately, women's soccer did not join the Olympics until 1988. There is a movie coming out April 21 called "Stick It" about a gymnast. The main character in that movie looks a lot like Bette, although she is prettier than Bette. I don't know whether I'll go to it. No woman ever affected me as much as Bette. It has been almost five years since I spent two days with her, and she often comes to mind. I keep telling myself that she's gay. I wish I could find someone else who stirred those feelings.

I don't find soccer players any better than the guys on the street. The thing that made you attracted to soccer players is the popularity of the sport worldwide.
