Mercedes is a good name for a person of Spanish background. The founder of the car company was German but was really obsessed by the name "Mercedes". That's how a German car got a Spanish name.

It's okay, but please no "cutsie poo" spellings. If you like the name, just spell it the normal way.
You'll spare your child all sorts of grief as she grows up.

no, well i suppose you could put a "y" in there or something
,,,,,,but those of you thinking its a name after a car... the name came first....The meaning of the name Mercedes is Merciful. The origin of it is Spanish.....so technically they named the car after the Spanish word for merciful...

No, Mercedes is the only accepted spelling.

I seriously want to slap people who assume that parents are naming their daughters after a car company. There are other languages, people, and in Spanish this is a lovely name that means "mercies".

I think the name is okay and a great nickname is Sadie. Dont spell it wrong it will only make you look like a bad speller.

Oh my gosh! do you people realize that Mercedes was the Greek Goddess of Chaos WAYYYYYYYY before there was a car lol! i like the name and there really aren't too many variations unless you spell it phonetically. good luck!

Let's see? Make it up yourself!?
Mursadez?
I changed just one letter in my daughters name and now she can never buy anything with her name without it being specially made. People always misspell her name and she grew up wishing she had a "normal" name. (Just keep this in mind when naming a child. But go crazy on the middle name!)
=)

don't be silly. do you want your child to spend her life correcting people. It is really frustrating!!!!

she will probably change it back to the PROPER spelling to get you back for mis-spelling it in the first place.

By the way, the Benz company founded by a German man called Benz, named the car after his daughter who was called MERCEDES. [Mercedes = first name, Benz = last name].

so the name Mercedes was originally a girls name long before it ever became a car name. (for those who think you would be naming your daughter after a car - you are not.)
