In my opinion may be not, because nowadays people rap about many topics and rap as of now has the same style. Back, then Hip-Hop had one general topic and that is about Life struggles. The only rappers are keeping the traditions alive are Kanye West, KRS-One, Nas, Mos Def, and the most important rapper Common. There's more but these rappers mentioned are the most recognized.

Truthfully i think the amount of good music is the same if not more than what it used to be...you just gotta filter out the commercial garbage and find real MC's.

People like Common, Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli, Blu & Exile (Just copped their album today and its real dope), Little Brother, etc. are all doing their part to keep music fresh.

It would be better without all this Soulja Boy and Yung Joc garbage though.

Good music is still here though.

I hope one day we can get hip hop back to basics or at least have a new name for all the bullsh*t that they are putting out there now so we dont make the mistake of comparing folks like Huey and soulja boy with people like dre and pac

That Superman song took rap down the totem pole. HAHAHA! Doesn't he sound like Buckwheat? Most real hip hop is underground or neo soul type rap artists. The consumer has to get smart and stop buying stupid rap songs with a nice beat.

There will always be real hip hop junkies who r gonna try to keep the music & culture focused on the "basics" But, in all honesty, hip hop is the todays POP music. Gotta deal w/ it.

Eventually

when it goes back underground for a while people with true appreciation for it will build it back up.

Music is a cycle just like the rest of life

It will go back to the basics... some already have. I do however doubt that it will ever go back to being mainstream which sucks.

you never know.
common definitly made a nice comeback.
but himself alone proves that you can be a classic hip-hop artist, and still be really cool and known today.

Hip-hop and Rap are dead. Electronica music will come back. It will be like 1983 all over again. I hope you like tacky plastic jewelry, cheezy music videos, and dancing extacy users.
