I gave my baby some peas from gerber with his rice cereal and 3 days later he has some diarreah...well, do you think it is from the peas? Maybe he is not ready for peas? He does rice and oatmeal. He is 5 months. I am not going to give him anything other than rice and oatmeal for a while, but he is allergic or maybe just not ready?

If it was the peas that gave him the diarreah it would have affected him the same day he ate them. At 5 months old he should be eating Strained Veggies, Infant Fruit Juices and Infant Cereals. Some good juices to start him on is White grape and apple but make sure u water them down first so he can get used to them.

Maybe you put too much of the peas in when you mixed it, besides vegies can be harder to digest. Start out by adding approx. 1 tablespoon of bananas or peaches in with a small bowl of rice cereal and see how it goes. You can increase the amount from there when he shows that he tolerates it well. One word of warning - WAIT on the blueberries - before his sytem is accustomed to foods, he may end up with explosive diarrhea! I learned that one the hard way. Once he is good with the bananas and peaches, try yellow squash, carrots of sweet potatoes and at that point start incorporating a small (and increasing amount) of green vegies and meat. The best thing of all is to intro the new food gradually until his system adjusts.

I think 3 days later was just a coincidence and not the peas. He surely would have gotten the poos within a day of the peas. I would stick with the rice and oatmeal cereals til he is over 6 months or ask your doctor.

Give him more peas, thats how you find out. Peas tend to block babies up, not give them the runs. At five months its more likely that he's starting to teethe.

Babies bodies react to things differently than ours. Having the runs for a day or even two, is not a cause for alarm, unless there is a high fever and they wont eat.

Try orange foods first, its generally the way you go. Carrots, sweet potatoes, peaches, things like that. Then green. But he surely should be fine with peas at his age.

Perhaps he isnt ready, u might be right ... but any change in diet can lead to a little bit of diarhea. I wouldnt jump to the conclusion that he's allergic to it. Perhaps start him of on somethign else, like a little runny pumpkin mixed through with a bit of milk, or some sweet potato. Just be very gradual, which you sound like you are being. Just introduce one food at a time and use it for a few days, just to see how hes reacting to it. When you introduce peas, put them through a seive to make sure all the shelly bits are gone. Good luck! And have fun with bub!
