a gun. The people who use that cliche must be listening to the Rifle Association and gun sellers and repeating a stupid statement without realizing that it makes no sense whatsoever!

My response to 'guns don't kill, people do' is yeah, people with guns.

We don't outlaw knives just because they are dangerous because knives have a function that outweighs their danger. However the same can't be said about guns, especially handguns. In the case of handguns, the danger clearly outweighs the function.

If you want statistics how about comparing murder rates of the US with countries that control guns like Canada or Japan (or just about any other developed country with the ability to mass produce handguns)

However those are logical arguments and logic has very little to do with frightened little people who either need penis enlargements or have penis envy.

If the Government made a law that banned guns, then only law abiding citizens would heed it and not buy guns. But the criminal would still get them, because they don't care, they just want your property which is easy to get with a gun. The main issue is the Government itself, citizens with out guns are defenseless against the Government. China is a good example of that now. USSR used to be. :)
Another example is some towns which made it a law that the head of the house hold had to have a gun. The Crime went down because the Criminals realized if they tried to rob anyone, that person had a gun and would shoot the heck out of them. :)

Well its true, The gun doesn't walk up to people and shoot them. The gun is simply a tool, just like Swords and Bow/Arrows where during the roman times. They are simply inanimate object. If people where running around shooting other people with bow and arrows the results would be exactly the same. That meaning people would still complain the same way (ie) "Bow and arrows are dangerous and should be illegal" or " Bow and arrows should be taken off the streets!". The only thing that has changed is society and the human mind. In today's society everything is much more documented and broadcasted. Weapons are weapons, wether it be a spear, sword, gun, bazooka. They are simply tools..... and tools of war have been around since the dawn of man... Like i said, its the humans outlook, attitude and perspective that has evolved.

Simple answer: guns kill people and people kill people.

One is not exclusive of the other and the problem should be addressed at 2 fronts.

Break into my house from the downstairs door and you will be swatted over the head with a Louisville Slugger little league bat, which will result in your death.

The statement makes perfect sense. 45000+ people die in car wrecks every year. To use your logic, you would have to agree that driving a car makes it easier to kill, too.

loose the hype, cars kill more people than guns do, any day and every day...i've even seen an old blue hair intentionally hit a motorcyclist and then tell the cop that she didn't even see him...people kill people with or without guns...so get over it.

Because the tool used to kill the person has nothing to do with it. I could use my big makeup case to knock someone over the head and kill them with. Should we then ban makeup cases? No. I would be the killer. We should not ban every object that could possibly used to kill people. Then I guess I should say goodbye to my high-heeled platform shoes as well. I could easily kill someone with those bad boys.

it makes perfect sense. and i've never even fired a gun.
guns can be used in both positive and negative ways. they can be used to hunt for food, protect our family and property, and for recreation. they can also be used to kill, injure, or manipulate people. it all depends on the person using the gun and what their motives happen to be.

you can use the same argument with numerous things. one example is a hammer. it can be used to build a home or shatter a skull. it doesn't mean we should ban all hammers, does it?

Why then are the murder rates the highest in cities that limit/ban handgun ownership? DC, LA, New York... Think it over...
