If it has been dead for so long why dont you split up? Do you have kids, and that is why you stay? Why havent you in the past ten years tried to do something about the dead marriage? Sooner or later, something will happen in a marriage such as this....nobody can pretend forever. Someone will get so fed up, do something outrageous and hurt everyone in the process. Maybe it is time to think about ending it.

I think you answered your own question.
The people I've known who discovered that their marriage was long gone seemed to recall that it was between 5-15 years before they noticed or finally admitted to it.
Usually people recognize it, talk to their spouse about it, get some help, and then move on in their own direction if it can't be revitalized.
My husband said that he and his ex lost connection the last 10 years of their 23 year marriage, after their third child turned 11. They didn't have relations with each other for the last 2 years of their marriage. They went to counseling, but when one person is done, then you're both done.

A dead marriage lasts as long as you are willing to put up with the rotten smell.
I suspect you and your spouse are living emotionally miserable with each other, but have found a comfortable place in your loveless home, living your lives separately and going through the motions for the benefit of others. After all, misery loves company.
If you want to end the marriage, then do so. If you are content with living in a dead marriage, then continue on the same path. One of you has got to make a move. Nothing will change until you do.

I don't like where this is going!! LOL I hope Adam and Chelsea will have an everlasting marriages and can prove it to all the others on that show!! As for Sharon I can see Victor coming back and sees Sharon in bed with Tucker and he will say "I'm gone a little bit and this is what you do!! you cheat on me!! GET OUT!!" I think Billy and Vikki may have problems but they stayed together because of Johnny or Vikki will think Chelsea will want Johnny back, cause she is so paranoid about it. There always a chance that you can sent in your thoughts/storylines to them!!!

A dead marriage will last as long as you let it.
If you are both unhappy in the marriage then divorce is the only option if nothing else works.
If it is just one side that feels that it is dead then, the other person deserves to know how you feel as they have a right to be happy to.

Mine has been dead for about eight years. It just really sunk in the last couple of years. Now I am trying to take action to remedy the situation in the best manner possible for all parties. Perhaps you should do the same.

there is no such thing as " dead marriage ". if the marriage doesn't work out for whatever reasons... there's annulment or divorce. there is however a time in one's marriage-( no marriage is a bed of roses.. no marriage is perfect..) that you've allowed bore to set in. the magic of romance is gone because perhaps you allowed it without your knowing it. and in doing so... continued to sail along and suddenly out of the blues, started comparing your situation with another... you felt insecure, had sooo much self pity in your mind... that instead of trying to resolve the situation in getting the magic of romance back... you got stuck!!! wake up!!! don't let that craving oil in you smell like rut!!! be alive!!! start kicking!!! next thing you know... love is lovlier the second time around.

please sometimes it can last forever. my bf parents still live in the same house. the mother sleeps in one room, and the father sleeps in the basement. my bf said its been like that for as long as he can remember and he's 28. The parents only say hi to each other and keep on moving. i know that it is easier said than done but y wont you get a divorce, or seperate. the faster you get it over with the faster you can move on with you life, no mater what you may lose finanically. nothing beats having a piece of mind.

I know someone who is very dear to me who is in a dead relationship as you say. For about the same amount of time. Seems neither one of them are willing to rise up and say "I've had enough, I want to move on with my life" and are content to suffer with each other because it's comfortable. Someone has to break the ice.
