My son's first birthday is on Thanksgiving this year and am trying to figure out what to do. Of course we will celebrate it on Thanksgiving (have a cake & sing & presents from Mom& Dad), but I am wondering if we should have our family "party" then too, because everyone will be there, or should I just wait until that Saturday and celebrate it twice? I want it to be so special because he is my special boy! Any advice?

I would wait until Saturday. If one of the kids in our family has a birthday in the middle of the week, we usually have a cake on the actual day and have a party during the weekend when more people can enjoy it with you at a more convenient time.

I would wait until Saturday and celebrate twice.

I have two daughters that are 6 and 8 and my husband and I always do a 2 party thing. Their actual birthdays are only for us and the sibling. We have a special candlelight dinner and cake and ice cream and on the weekend have the party.
They are only young once and we cherish the day they were born and feel it is only for us, not grandparents etc. Not trying to be rude but the times we get with just the 4 of us, or however many of you there are, are few and far between and we know it is only a matter of years before they probably wont want to do it anymore.

My son's birthday four days after Christmas. I always liked to make a special day for him that was distinct from the holiday season by having a party on a different day. I made sure to do something special for him at home on the actual birthday, too.

I think it would be wonderful since all of the family will already be there. Your son won't mind sharing his birthday with a turkey until he's older. When he's ready for Chucky Cheese or something with class mates and friends, then you'll need to make 2 parties, one for family on Thanksgiving, and one for friends when he can go crazy with his friends. =)

Have the party the weekend BEFORE. No one will come to a party during the best sales of the year. Everyone will be out shopping.

I would have the party the weekend before. Call it good. We do our kid's birthday parties on the weekend even if it falls on a weekday. More people can make it to it then. I would only do one party. He doesn't need two.

why not have it on Thanksgiving? we had the entire family come to our son's first birthday, as a tropical luau!
it was an awesome way to get the whole family together since everyone is always too busy to get together!

Talk with relatives and see if they want to do one or both. We always did both, two parties, because its easier on everyone.
