That's funny because I know two construction workers named Jim, and I don't know that many construction workers or that many Jims altogether. When I was a kid, I had a gymnastics instructor named Jim. I guess something about Jimness makes them want to work in construction or in a Gym.

jim is a name you can only earn through the secret man council for completion of manly tasks.
as being a construction worker at some point is one of these secret tests/tasks many construction workers earn their jim name early on.
the next stage used to be to earn a bruce until that name was hi-jacked by the gays along with the police hat.
the eventual goal is to become a chuck (in honor of the god of manliness) after years of manly tasks such as hair growing, high decibel farting and medallion wearing.

I work in construction and my name is not Jim!!!!
Most of my co-works name are not Jim!!!!
So I have no idea what you are talking about here!!!

here in scotland taxi drivers are jims too as well as painters
joiners and all handymen are also jims although occasionally bob's
my dad always said right thanks jim (occasionally jimmy)
to every taxi driver when i was young, aparantly this is what people call them, and not what they are themselves called
its almost a term of endearment, its said in a fond, thankful way
i think also they all get their name changed by deedpoll
its a work thing!
