how do you convert 98cm to whatever meters it is?

The -guessing- method? I'm not sure what that is. 98 cm is very close to 1 a meter. So the number of inches should come out very close to 39.37 in., actually just a teensy bit less than 39.37 in. Which it does. Just by 'guessing' you could round it off to 'just about one meter', depending on how close you needed to be.
