How about a gift that shows the person understands me. It doesn't have to be an expensive gift but it should be something that shows the person put some thought into it. A DVD of home movies that have been edited and set to music can be very meaningful. But a book about a favorite topic or a favorite movie can also be meaningful.

When people give gifts that are obviously second hand and cheap looking its rude (in my opinion) especially when you know that they could have done better. But if something has more sentimental value then worth i really appreciate that. At the same time i don't want anybody to buy me off.
