x = adult tickets
y = student tickets

2.5x + 1.1y = 212
x + y = 110

solve the second equation for y: y = 110 - x

substitute this into the 1st equation.

2.5x + 1.1(110 - x) = 212
2.5x + 121 - 1.1x = 212
1.4x + 121 = 212
1.4x = 91
x = 65

Let A be the number of Adult tickets.
Let S be the number of Student tickets.
Total sold: 110 = A + S
Dollars: 212 = A(2.50) + S(1.10)
Average price was 1.93
Try 60 adult & 50 student, that's 150 + 55 = 205 low by 7.
Try 67 adult & 43 student, that's 167.50 + 47.30 = 214.80
Try 66 adult & 44 student, that's 165 + 48.40 = 213.40
Try 65 adult & 45 student, that's 162.50 + 49.50 = 212

Solve #1 for A: 110 = A + S
A = 110 - S
Substitute in #2: 212 = A(2.50) + S(1.10)
212 = (2.50)(110 - S) + S(1.10)
212 = 275 - S(2.50) + S(1.10)
S(1.40) = 63
S = 63/(1.40) = 45
A = 110 - 45 = 65

let x = number of adult tickets
let 110-x = number of student tickets

2.5x+1.1(110-x) = 212
2.5x+121-1.1x = 212
1.4x = 91
x=65

She sold 65 adult tickets and 45 (110-65) student tickets.

I don't know what you mean by guess and check table.. but there's the equation. Hope that helped.

let the number of adult tickets sold=x, number of student tickets sold=110-x
total collection =2.50x+1.10(110-x)=212
1.40x=212-121
1.4x= 91
x=91/1.4
=65
so 65 adults and 45 student tickets.

A + S = 110
A = 110 - S
2.5A + 1.1S = 212
2.5(110 - S) + 1.1S = 212
275 - 2.5S + 1.1S = 212
1.4S = 63
S = 45
A = 110 - 45 = 65
45 Student tickets and 65 Adult Tickets

You can make your own guess and check table. It's literally guessing.
