Competition. Because plankton opened The Chum Bucket and Mr. Krabs opened The Krusty Krab. Sometimes Competition turns friends against each other.

The competition and then Krabs would get all of the customers and Plankton didn't have any. As a result, Plankton has tried to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula to generate business for himself and steal Krabs' clientele.
