6x+3y = -12 - > 6x+3y = -12
6x+2y= - 4 - > -6x-2y = 4
+__________
0 + y = - 8
y = -8
6x+2y = -4
6x -16 = -4
6x=12
x=2
y=-8, x=2
hope this helped

6x+3y=-12 and 6x+2y=-4
Rewrite in standard quadratic form:
6x + 3y + 12 = 0
and
6x + 2y + 4 = 0
Subtract #2 from #1 to eliminate x:
y + 8 = 0
y = -8
Substitute in #1
6x + 3(-8) = -12
6x = 24 -12
6x = 12
x = 2
Proof: substitute x & y in #2:
6(2) + 2(-8) = -4
12 - 16 = -4
Left = right,

first you take the inverse equation of any of the two equations.. (multiply the whole equation by -1)...
6x + 3y = -12
(6x + 2y = -4)(-1)
6x + 3y = -12
-6x - 2y = 4
__________
y = - 8
substitute the value of y to any of the equation then solve for x
6x + 3(-8) = -12
6x - 24 = -12
6x = 12
x = 2
your values:
x = 2
y = -8
just substitute the values in both equation to check..

solve for x in equation 1:
6x=-12-3y
x=-(12+3y)/6
subtitute value of x in equation 2
6x +2y=-4
6[(-12-3y)/6]+2y =-4
-12-3y + 2y=-4
-3y+2y=12-4
-y =8
y=-8 answer
solving for x:
6x +2(-8)=-4
6x-16=-4
6x=16-4
x=12/6
x=2 answer

Solve this system of equations by the subtraction method.
first change the signs of all terms in the second equation. It will now look like this:
-6x-2y=4
then stack the two equations and combine like terms.
6x+3y=-12
-6x-2y=4
--------------
0x+1y=-8
or simply, y=-8
now that you know the value of "y", you can plug that value back in to either of the equations to find the value of "x"

6x+3y=-12 and 6x+2y=-4
so subract:
(6x+3y) - (6x+2y ) = -12 +4
doing the arithmetic
y = -8
substituting y = -8
we have
6x + 3(-8) = -12
6x = -12 + 24
6 x = 12
x = 2

write the equations with one under the other.
Subtract: which means change the signs of the bottom equation and add the two equations.
That will ELIMINATE the x terms
then combine what's left and get value of y
Substitute the value for y into either equation and get the value of x. Done.
You should become familiar with this procedure because you will need to use it frequently.
