The ultimate shape of the universe depends on the amount of matter in the universe. Right now, scientific measurements show that there is just enough matter to make the shape of the universe flat. This means it will go on expanding forever. If it where ball shape as some have said that would mean there is enough matter to make the universe fall back on itself into another big bang. But scientist have not found near enough matter, including dark matter, to make the universe stop its expansion and fall back on itself.

Who knows?
At this time there are people that will suggest that it is a circle, a spiral, a long tube, and a sphere...All theories.
From Earth we can see outward with our most sophisticated optical and radio telescopes to objects 40 Billion Light Years distant in all directions. That is not the extent of Space, it is just as far as we can "see" with our very best equipment. So, for all intent and purposes you may consider that the universe is a bare minimum of a sphere of Radius at least 40 Billion Light Years, and more than likely much more than that.
Since there is no measure of the size of the Universe, there is also no valid, proven, detected, or measured shape observed or recorded by any Astronomers or Scientists. All that we know is that it is vast;...very, very big.
Please take all of those answers that suggest Space is curved back onto itself with a grain of salt. There has never been a recorded instance of planets, or stars passing by the Earth after having flown around the complete circuit of a looped back (curved) Universe. Since things have been expanding at almost the speed of light for eons and eons, if that theory was correct, we should have been passed by many new planets and stars as they shot by on the great circular route.

Just because our latest telescopes can see some billion
light years in all directions does it mean that space is
a sphere.
Imagine a fly suspended in the middle of a huge
cathedral. From its limited vision it may conclude that
the area it inhabits is a three dimensional sphere!
Essentially we are looking at the past.Light from the stars
we are seeing has left some billion years ago. We dont
know the present state of it.
It would be a great joke if the findings are to reveal in the
future that we inhabit a three dimensional funnel with the
narrow end in the big bang

If you're talking about Outer Space, it's not flat. Flat is two-dimensional. We live in a three-dimensional universe. It isn't necessarily round, either. It's sorta like a dust cloud with each particle of dust representing a star or galaxy.
Then, again, there just may a be two-dimensional parallel universe --- somewhere.
Scotty, beam me up. I'm done here.

Space has no shape; it's infinite. The Universe, on the other hand, is round according to current theories.

I don't think anyone has proved an answer to that yet. Its still out there somewhere with guys like steven hawking and albert einstein. Its accepted that space-time can be curved. Gravity has been proven to curve space. I suppose the only thing you could say for sure is that its not flat. But does it curve? Is it in fact looped back upon itself? No one knows for sure.

Well no one really knows. Due to the size and the fact that we are basically so small (we are basically like part of an atom, earth being an electron going around the neucleus aka sun), we can not visualize or even see the edge of space (if such exists) and therefore no shape can be assigned.

it depends on what scientists you listen to the big bang theory would cause a round space like a ever expanding balloon

Space is infinite. Basically it is shaped like a ball. However, it is curved also. If you take a rocket ship and launch it from the north pole it will eventually hit the south pole.
