I mean, he played in the league for 15 years or so, yet only made it to the Super Bowl ONCE (during his second year). Sure, he has a lot of stats, but the ring is what they play for (Just ask Peyton and Brady).

Rings don't necessarily mean greatness...for example, do you think Jim Plunkett is better than Dan Marino? How about Doug Williams being better than Warren Moon? Or Trent Dilfer being better than Jim Kelly? Your argument doesn't hold water because Marino played in an era where there were great quarterbacks all over the place (Kelly, John Elway, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Phil Simms, Moon, Brett Farve, Randall Cunningham, etc.), so one cannot expect him and the Dolphins to be annual contenders. Keep in mind that Marino often played on teams that lacked quality receivers (especially after the Clayton/Duper era). Saying Dan Marino is overrated is like saying breathing is overrated.

Is this a Donovan McNabb thing? Of course he wasn't overrated. He was the reason that Miami was actually able to do as well as they did. Look at his stats. You can't be overrated and do all the things he did. Do you think John Elway was overrated? He didn't win any Super Bowls until the end of his career. If he hadn't won any Super Bowls, would that have taken away from his ability? How about Dan Fouts? Was he over rated? Or Warren Moon? He never won a Super Bowl either, but he was still one of the best.

Well, if Marino is over-rated, then so are guys like George Blanda, Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkenton, etc. All of those guys are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame (as is Marino). None of them ever won a Super Bowl.

If you would rather have a mega-star like Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer (who both have rings) over any of those listed above, more power to ya', buddy.

The stats are every measure of a player. Getting the ring is a team accomplishment.
Marino stats do not reflect that he played on some pretty crappy teams and still had individual success.

Listen brother, ya'll got all the speed positions wr,rb us whiteys know that. But to say Marino was overrated is just plain dumb and a knock to ONE of the ALL TIME GREATEST QB'S TO EVER PLAY THE GAME! First he played all those years with absolutely no proven running back behind him! Now the black QB's are saying well weez be looked at more closely than whitey. C'mon get over it, we own the QB position. Here are your 2007 black starting QB's Donovan Mcnabb injured, past his prime, and NOW WHINING because he is 0-2 and for the first time HAS NO ONE ELSE TO BLAME i.e T.O. oh and 0 RINGS,David Garrard,PLEASE NEVER will see A SUPERBOWL OR WILL EVER TOUCH MARINOS RECORDS. Vince Young THE BEST BLACK QB playing right now!Superbowl ,umm nah, passing records never, OH HE CAN can run though. Tavaris Jackson Yeah think that one over,Jason Cambell looks good so far,Superbowl, passing records never! Steve McNair, past his prime, injured and had his one chance in 2000. You can add Unproven JaMarcuss Russell, NEVER WILL BE THE SAME Daunte Culpepper, and even the DUMBEST OF THEM ALL ghetto dogfighter Micheal Vick your brother QB list. All of them combined could not carry Marino's jock strap on their best days. Here check out mighty whiteys starters in 2007. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady (4 rings) combined. Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlesberger (1 ring), NEED I GO ON! Listen can you name the 1 AND ONLY STARTING BLACK QB TO WIN A SUPERBOWL? PROBABLY NOT. WELL I WILL GIVE YOU THE ANSWER, IT WAS DOUG WILLIAMS. THERE NOW YOU HAVE YOUR ONE PRIZED BLACK QB. Listen and listen well brother, MARINO DID THINGS BROTHERS ONLY DREAM ABOUT AT THAT POSITION.OH AND TELL DONOVAN MCNABB HE IS A BIG CRYBABY AND to SHUT UP! MAYBE T.O. HAD SOME REAL REASONS FOR WANTING TO LEAVE HIS SIDE IN PHILLY! IF YOU WANT HERE ARE SOME OTHER WHITEY NAMES TO ADD TO YOUR LIST; MONTANA, BRADSHAW, ELWAY, KELLY, UNITAS, NAMETH, FAVRE, STAUBACH, NEED I KEEP GOING! QB'S NEED TO RUN,BE SMART AND BY THE WAY PASS WELL. MICHEAL VICK BEFORE HE DECIDED TO BE A THUG AND BECOME A GHETTO DOGFIGHTER ( WHAT AN IDIOT) COULD REALLY ONLY RUN AND MOVE WELL,HE WAS AN AVERAGE PASSER. VINCE YOUNG IS A SMART QB AND HAS SKILLS,BUT WILL NOT PUT UP MARINO NUMBERS EVER IN HIS CAREER! STOP HATIN WILL YA!!!!!!

I don't thing he is overated at all.I seen him play at Pitt, and I knew he would be the real deal. The problem is he needed more help on a few of those Dolphin teams. Some players play to make a better life for them and their families, and on the way they hope they can get a ring.

just because he didnt get a ring doesnt mean he was over rated...football is such a team sport, you need a TEAM around you...not just a bunch of players..i dont think he ever had as many weapons as a tom brady or a peyton manning
