This is probably a dumb question, but I'm wondering if I can upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 with a 8600 GTS series.

Now, I have a PCI Express x16 slot. What I'm thinking is the NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 is intergrated because I can't find a graphics card for it. Would I just uninstall the graphics drivers I have now and insert an 8600 GTS in the PCI-Express slot and be alright?

Other notes: AMD Anthlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 1.87GB Ram.

If you could also let me know if I'm able to use an 8600 GTS card with that, that would also be helpful. Thanks!

YES, Geforce 6150SE is just integrated graphics. It is part of the chipset that supports PCIe interface.
Once you plug in the 8600GTS there, motherboard BIOS will automatically disable integrated graphics. FULL system RAM will also now be available for your OS and programs.

Just take note that the 8600GTS draws up to 47watts or 4 amps on the +12V rail. Be sure to have at least 18 amps on the +12V rail of your power supply for cool and stable running.

8600GTS may also be a bit bottlenecked by your processor. You could later consider overclocking that X2 3800+ or upgrading to an X2 with 2.4ghz or higher speed.

You can use whatever GPU you want with that setup, its just that your processing becomes bottlenecked at the CPU. I have an X2 4800 with an x1950 pro, and i think that my CPU is the limiting component. I hvae AGP, so that was the best i could get, but you could gertainly get the 8600, juist you wouldn;t get the most out of it.

If you upgraded your CPU as well, you would see a much better improvement. And really the only reasont to get teh 8600 is for DX 10 which really isn;t available yet. With my setup i can run any game available, and almost all of them at max setings. Oblivion 1280x1024, 25~75 FPS (takes a hit when it has a lot of AIs to control) , bioshock 1280x1024 20~45 FPS. Company Of heroes 1280x1024 30~75. Supreme Commander 7~50 (yeah it takes a big hit when there are lots of units fighting). I got these from FRAPS running in the corner, not in benchmark mode, just monitoring it. The only thing i can;t do is run DX 10.

the proper way would be to get driver cleaner pro ... uninstall the graphics driver ... turn off ... put the card in ... reboot enter bios disable onboard ... reboot into safemode and install the latest driver .. then reboot normally .. there also may be an option in bios to use the pci express slot for graphics or enable it or somthing so look around while ur in there ..

ofcourse you can. just dont forget to go to bios and choose disable to onboard graphic option.

you can use anything that have pciexpress interface (ranging from geforce 6600 to 8800 ultra if you want) but make sure your power supply can handle your card ( my geforce 8600gt run well in 430 watt psu)

as far as i know, you have to refer to the manual of your motherboard, if upgrading the video card will be supported..
