It was 9% in VA when I was there under a Republican govenor and a closely divided legislature in a very red state (at the time). How much is too much? Depends on many factors. If there were no income tax, I'd say up to 20-30%. With income and other taxes, I think 7-9% is high enough.

I think they should increase the sales tax to 20%. That would teach those Democrats a lesson or two. In fact, I think all big cities like NY, San Fransisco, LA, Baltimore, Detroit, and Washington DC should increase their sales tax the same. Since taxation generates prosperity, that would be a wonderful thing for those cities. After all, they need the money more than the rest of us.

Oh I would say at least they think 80% would be about right for Chicago.

They are not accountable.

When Daliy was going up reelected an entire district that was leaning toward GOP didn't get their ballots or information were to vote.

Liberals cry about FL those who live in IL just laugh.
Chicago has it down cold and nobody can do anything about it.

I bet lots of liqour stores selling 40z beer will close up as will department chain stores they will shut down, and people will have less amenties to enjoy. In addition, the 11% sales tax will hit the poorest members of society the hardest, and I bet even Mayor daley will probadly heed the call the reject this motion, and if he does not probadly not get reelected even in the projects.

I'd say 11% is too much. . .
