Sharia law maybe? the law based on religion not on common sense.
Possible persecution and death penalty to those not adhering to islam, perhaps?
Are you referring ot the US? go read a real book will you, whatever your madrassah tells you , here in the States THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT CONTROLLED BY RELIGION.

Could I get a source, sorry, but I just want it. I would like to print it up.
Anyways, onto your question, it is most likely because it is one of the most sacred lands to the Islamic religion, Mecca and Medina are amazingly important to Islam. Also, the government of Saudi Arabia is ruled like an Islamic State, and there is even a King and a royal family. Also, it is run with Sharia law which is exclusive to Muslim nations.

They will not, at present, allow the worship of other religions, the rebuilding or repair of religious buildings or other structures, the wearing of other symbols.
What you do in private, as long as it doesn't involved other citizens, is up to you.

there's a state religion..all others are banned....just as fundamentalist Christians would like to make the US. I'm thankful the Constitution prevents that.
