They have the most unpopular president since Nixon, they lost Congress in a landslide a year ago, the Iraq war is the least popular war since the last few months of Vietnam, their Presidential front runner has less support than the number of undecideds in their own party, a full third of Republicans have completely abandoned their own President ---- and they think they have a good chance of winning in 08!!!!

Have you ever seen such a pile of "confused" people in your life?

They lead cloistered lives. I know, I work with some.
They were snickering over Hillary's chances just the other day...and claiming everybody knows "the polls" are crooked.

You see buddy here in lies the problem. True enough the republican party is going through some hard times. The presidents approval rating while somewhere twice that of the democrat controlled congress is still way to low. Iraq is unpopular, the party has yet to decide on a candidate for president, all though we are some 14 months from the election. It's still a little early to say who will win in 08, and some republicans are running from the president. To say I'm confused though misses the grater point. I'm not so confused as to vote for the democrat. You see that have yet to give me, a taxpaying, married, working, heterosexual, white guy, with kids a reason to vote for them. That's what it comes down to. It isn't so much why I should vote against the republicans(Bush isn't running in 08) it why should I vote for a party(Dem's) that consider me a racist bigot, a homophobes, a greedy uncaring selfish idiot, incapable of making my own dissisions, and handling my own affairs. Got an answer for that?

Argle Bargle can't you see whats happening to the left. The Democrat controlled Congress just came back with a 11% approval rating, much lower than the President's and one of the lowest of all time. Your Presidential front runners have some of the highest disapproval ratings for a candidate, much higher than anyone who has ever been elected to the office. And party members abandoning a lame duck president in their final year and a half is common. Look how many asked President Clinton to stay away during the campaign,

You are so right. America and the idiots that still believe in there country as a good place to live or delusional.
It not just the republicans it just they been in power the last few terms but the Democrats are just as stupid they have a women and a "black" Muslim running on there ticket. What next a queer, lesbian and transvestite?

That's what politics will do to you if you try and insert a little common sense and rational into the equation.
The democrats made numerous promises while campaigning last November. I don't need to remind anyone of how many they have reneged on - just check their performance pole numbers.
They are now making more promises - no new strategies, just more promises - it should be interesting to see how the people vote in '08 given the lame accounting the newly elected democratic Congress has given itself - and the far left lunatics who pride them selves in attacking America at every turn are not helping the democrats at all. When the democratic candidates are afraid to even denounce the ad placed by Moveon.Org accusing General Patraus as some kind of traitor - well, that simply speaks volumes about their commitment and individual strengths - as well as their intimidation from a far left web site, no less. Not exactly presidential material, I'm afraid.

Conservatives have an enormous aptitude for delusion. It's the main reason they are cons in the first place. These idiots are virtually incapable of reading the writing on the wall.

Already 36 answers, so I probably shouldn't bother lol, but just had to say this is a GREAT question. Those things go through my mind every time I'm in this forum and I see Republicans peddling their talking points and claiming with all sincerity that it's the Dems who don't stand a chance. I always wonder if they have a grip on that thing called reality.

I'll think about that as I sit in my 2178 sq. ft. house that was purchased in 2003, drinking a premium beer, sitting at home playing on my broadband Internet connection while my two little girls run around playing wearing name brand clothing while they will NEVER have to fear a terrorist attack here on our home soil while Bush is in office.
Congress is doing great with your "landslide" victory. You are comparing a current president to a president from the past... apples and oranges. If Hillary or Obama are your best then, yes, of course we think we have a chance in '08.
You guys took Congress because of Bush and the war in Iraq. Now we will just take the White House, because of Congress and Iraq. See how simple it is?

BTW - Nice cat! I still love your name, it cracks me up every time I think of it.

Since the left wing nuts of the Democratic party like Moveon.org, Daily Kos, Ny Times, ETC, are pushing independents and moderate Dems, away from the democratic party, the easy victory the Liberals predicted in 08 is flushing down the toilet and almost assuring a Republican win in 08 and a House Cleaning in Congress since the Dem controlled congress approval rating is lower than Bush's.

The GOP strategy for the last few years is to go toward their "base" the very conservative voters for the most part, rather than try to go toward the center, especially in the primaries. George W. Bush won the primaries in large part because of very conservative Evangelical Christian voters. I mean of course its not a whole lot of voters but its enough and that group of voters does consistently go out and vote.

I am a conservative. I am glad of it. The President has been doing a good job in some areas: the economy and the war in Iraq.
There was no landslide loss of anything. The Senate has one more liberal vote than conservative. Those liberals who won in the House did it be claiming to be more conservative than the people they ousted. As soon as they got to DC, they got in lock step with the rest of the left wing liberal loonies.
No Republicans have abandoned the President. You are deluding yourself.
The approval rating of the Democrat Congress is now down to 11%: that is eleven per cent. The Republican President is at 30%, or almost three times as good as the liberals.
We will just have to wait and see what transpires in the next election.
