While I have great respect for Jason Leopold’s work, I am disheartened to read that what he finds disturbing is that the story has not been covered by the MSM. Personally I am disturbed more by the next paragraph, vis.:

“No, what’s disturbing about these facts is how little attention it has received from the mainstream media. But the public record speaks for itself, as do the thousands of pages of documents obtained by various federal agencies that show how Halliburton’s business dealings in Iran helped fund terrorist activities there—including the country’s nuclear enrichment program.

When I asked Wendy Hall, a spokeswoman for Halliburton, a couple of years ago if Halliburton would stop doing business with Iran because of concerns that the company helped fund terrorism she said, “No.” “We believe that decisions as to the nature of such governments and their actions are better made by governmental authorities and international entities such as the United Nations as opposed to individual persons or companies,” Hall said. “Putting politics aside, we and our affiliates operate in countries to the extent it is legally permissible, where our customers are active as they expect us to provide oilfield services support to their international operations. “We do not always agree with policies or actions of governments in every place that we do business and make no excuses for their behaviors. Due to the long-term nature of our business and the inevitability of political and social change, it is neither prudent nor appropriate for our company to establish our own country-by-country foreign policy.””

I’m certain that Leopold knows about the long and sordid history of unscrupulous US corporations who, from all the evidence, in the business of bilking the American taxpayer. Examples abound, but confining our examples to WW2, US companies (Ford, Standard Oil, ITT, Prescott Bush, eg) were doing business with our ‘enemy’ Nazi Germany before, during and after the Second World War, supplying the Germans with the financing, fuel and parts both they and the American forces needed in the move into Bastogne, and the Battle of the Bulge, for one of many examples. More recently, the actions of Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater, and the majority of defense and arms contractors, snouts deep in the American money trough, is only the current embodiment of the oh-so-American ethic of corporate socialism at the public expense, working to make war endless to ride the cost-plus government gravy train all the way to the bank into eternity. There’s no Democrat or Republican, there’s only the haves and the have-nots. You can’t stop it son, but you CAN choose to be on the side that profits. (wink wink)

The problem is that it is all done legally, with the lawyers pulling apart our Constitution and laws as if they were finding loop-holes in the tax code. The Justice (?) Department advises the President how he can break laws, re-write the laws ex-post-facto, circumvent (minimally Article 3 of) the Geneva Accords, interpret the UN Charter as being of little consequence, engage in torture and the suspension of civil liberties based upon nothing more than one (hardly objective) man’s suspicion. The problem is that the crimes committed are vast, but more than just done and then ignored, defended by many who know better, with excuses such as ‘well, he was just doing his job’ or ‘they were just following their orders”. If they are just doing their jobs, is it not then the jobs that need to be questioned? If our troops were just following orders, then don’t the Allied decisions of Nuremberg, to which the US was a participant, apply? If so, then the individual soldier is accountable, as are the government’s leaders, all the way up to and including the President (who called the Constitution "a Gd-damned piece of paper") and his Cabinet. But if the US finds the law a hindrance, it has plenty of lawyers to find the legal loophole that makes black white and up down, and a Congress that will agree with them, and a Press that will dutifully never recall a time when it was the other way around. Indeed, they will insist, it has always been that way. With enough repetition, the ‘official’ version of things becomes the accepted version of things. When the king stamps his foot, the servants tremble in their quarters.

You Bush haters never get tired of a new fantasy conspiracy do you? Next you'll be spouting how Bush and Cheney secretly converted to Islam years ago, and that they are both members of the Saudi Royal Family trying to steal Iraq's and Iran's oil for the Saudi king.

I wouldn't be surprised at that one. Makes me think of the movie with Nicholas Cage's "Lord of War"

People are idiots if they don't think that article is true. Look at both of their actions in the past 20 years.
