As long as your familiar with the anime.

As a general rule... I always google searched my names. That way any pop culture references that you may or may not know about will be brought to your attention.

Or... you can just go the ignorance is bliss route. I mean, it's not as if the same things will be "in" when she/he's grown anyway...

Up to you. If you have specific reasons for liking the name Akira, I say go for it.

I think Akira sounds funny but kyra is cute or if you want a unique a name Ashariya (osha-rie-uh) is my fave.
