I keep reading article after article saying that USC proved they were the number 1 team with their win over Nebraska. HOW? Because they put up points? Like they're the only team that has done that!? Here's some stats for you.

Offense

TDs Ypg Passypg Rushypg
USC 12 439 175 264
LSU 17 483 252 232
UF 21 521 286 234

Defense
TDs Ypg Passypg Rushypg

USC 5 336 272 65
LSU 1 128 98 30
UF 5 279 233 46

I'm a gator fan, but by my calculations LSU should be 1 Florida should be 2 and MAYBE USC should be 3. Thoughts?

FutbolGK- I find it funny that you felt the need to turn this into a Pac10/SEC argument. I posed a question and gave stats for the top 3 teams according to the polls. Never mentioned conference.
Fight on!- I find it funny that you felt the need to call me an idiot. If you read my original satement, you'd see that I was questioning articles I read claiming that by USC's domination (and there is no argument here. They did dominate) of UN, that they somehow PROVED that they were the number 1 team. I was pointing out that the top 2 other teams dominate their opponents as well. And regardless of any argument you may have, Nebraska is no better an opponent than Va Tech or Tenn (Ok they may be better than Tenn).
ATM - You asked who LSU has played? Well I ask you, who has USC played? Because if you question Va Tech, then I'll question UN. Both teams got crushed by quality opponents.
I'm not saying that USC isn't a good team, they are. But they PROVED that they were #1? Not without a playoff

Rankings are always bogus. It's always fun to look at, but in reality, it's all about who has the most hype. You always see people that make assumptions and opinions about a team, but shocked when they lose.

I am not a hater nor an SEC fan, but I can see with my two eyes that LSU is the best team in the country.

Oh and the MD Terps suck, FU UMCP.

Who has LSU played? Nobody Virginia Tech sucks this year and they do not have a good defense. LSU will get there first test this weekend and then we will see what they can do with a QUALITY team and not Tennessee. If you are going off stats then it should go

OFFENSE
1. Oklahoma
2. Florida
3. Louisville

DEFENSE
1.LSU
2. Cinnci
3. Iowa

But since we all know that this isnt the case for the simple fact that it isnt that hard to put up big numbers on scrub teams. So until they can prove something to anyone then LSU will stay 2 and Florida 3 which after this weekend I think it will be Florida 2 and LSU 3 and of course USC #1. By the way im an Arizona St. fan but I pay attention to all of college football and Im not going to say my team is the best when I know for a fact they arent. Just wait until we get deeper into the season and the polls are not going to look anything like they do today.

And Garret you are the one that doesnt know what you are talking about. Why does it matter if Matt Flynn or Early Doucet start if they arent playing anyone. Also Virginia Tech's defense is far from solid. Lets see how LSU does without Doucet this weekend against a SOLID defense.

if youre basing your opinion on the assumption that USC is #1 because of offensive production, than backing your argument using these stats...youve completely contradicted yourself. according to these stats and your logic, FL should be #1. they have the best offensive #s...

now that we've proved for a fact youre an idiot, according to my calculations, lets talk football.does your formula take home and away into consideration? imagine of USC had played NE at the Coliseum...after Va Techs first 2 games, do you really think they were the #9 team going into the game against LSU? i dont, they were HIGHLY over rated. what about the fact that half way in they gave up and put a true freshman QB in. you dont think that didnt effect the entire teams play? not to mention it was AT LSU!if USC had run up the score, which PC will never do, would you then be more impressed? is 42-10 w/ 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter on the road not good enough?? come on now, you cant be this football illiterate can you?? maybe you are.

i look forward to your response, its been a while since i felt like debating w/ someone, especially over this over talked issue...few on here can compete with me in a college football debate, you seem new here. lets see how you do...

ya here's a thought both LSU and Florida played their first strings almost all game, USC did not they had 2nd and 3rd teams after the first series in the 2nd half besides u want numbers go with this LSU only scored 45 I think all game against an 0-3 team and Tenn is a way overrated team but USC scored 49 on a good Nebraska team with no less than 5 different RB's scoring

Texcoach doesn't know what he's talking about.
LSU didn't even play Matt Flynn their starting QB OR Early Ducet(who is one of the best WRs in the country) at all against Mid Tennessee! He also fails to acknowledge the fact that LSU put up 48 on the Virginia Tech defense, who has a WAY more solid defense than Nebraska. Florida was without their best WR in Andre Caldwell and Tennessee may be overrated, but they still are a quality team.

Love them or hate them. They are the real deal. At this point in the season anyway. By the beginning of December the world may look completely different, but the thinking is that they have a team that will be in the BCS Bowl in January.

well your calculations are wrong! all you SEC fans should deal with the fact that a Pac-10 team is ranked higher than any SEC team. you wanna know why USC isnt scoring a lot on offense or defense. its because as soon as Pete Carol gets a safe 2 or 3 touchdown lead he sends in the 2nd and 3rd stringers. in the idaho game he sent out the 3rd string qb after they were safely ahead. they dont often go for blowouts because WE have class. we only like to blowout UCLA and Notre Dame. so deal with it USC IS #1, get over it!

You keep thinking that anyone is better than them. Come on, they didn't just beat Nebraska. Their second string DESTROYED them.
