can someone please refrase this sentence so it is not a fragment and flows smoother?

Sacrifices in stories where the character changed their viewpoint and personality did not work very well, while the ones that did not worked better.

In addition, could I have some synonyms for 'are made?"
THANKS

It isn't a fragment as it's written.

The convincing [or maybe you mean effective, within the story] sacrifices were the ones made by characters who retained their attitudes and personalities. When the characters changed their points of view in making their sacrifices, the sacrifices they made were less believable [or failed to produce the desired results].

Made: created, developed, produced, effected, brought about, instigated. Don't overdue the passive voice, either.
