"A friend dismissed reports of scientific findings that could have aroused suspicion, saying traces of Madeleine’s DNA allegedly found in the back of the car they hired 25 days after she disappeared could be explained easily.

He also sought to explain yesterday why sniffer dogs — trained to detect the “smell of death” — allegedly became so excited when shown the boot of the car.

“Kate and Gerry had to transport all their rubbish to a communal rubbish dump half a mile away,” the friend said.

“There was a regular run with the boot of the car being full of rubbish including bags of rotting fruit, rotting meat and soiled nappies belonging to the twins.”

The friend said the dogs would have been confused by the mix of smells."

So thats it then, the dog smelt last night's leftover steak which is why he got so excited. Guess we can close the case now.

FFS. Im pretty sure that the dog is taught to tell the difference between a bit of left over meat, and a dead corpse.

well the McCann's 'friends' would say that wouldn't they? I'm sure if I had access to the use of a fund over a million sterling, I'd be able to find a friend willing to say whatever I want them to as well!

Welcome back Dave s!

The dogs can only ever be used as a pointer of where to look for evidence, over here we can use them to search for buried bodies by 'drilling' in to the ground and they can detect the small coming up through the soil. You could never just convict someone on the fact that the dog think you've been hiding a body - the dog just points the handler in the right direction then it's up to the police to further examine that place for evidence. The evidence of the dog picking up on a smell would mean nothing to the court anyway, I'm not sure why they're bothering to argue their way out of this - giving all these excuses is just putting nails in to their own coffin (no pun intended)

** Neil - Hmm, that really does look a bit sus - Wonder if they had all those covers on the buggy before she went missing!?

I hope they had not kept her nappies for five weeks. I thought that these dogs were highly trained to detect human corpses. I doubt whether the "friends" have worked with these dogs. Did you know that the Prison Service trains dogs to locate mobile phones. On that basis I think that you can trust a dogs nose. However I am still on the fence over why the DNA was there, it could be a bizarre coincidence or it could be sinister. I just hope that they locate Maddy soon and the truth is found out.

First...welcome back!

For weeks now, you've been airing your opinion on your very own little theories regarding the McCanns. We didn't pronounce you "an expert on them" in a sarcastic way. We realised that this was your opinion which you wanted to express in an attempt to convince others of your view.
Kate & Gerry McCanns' friends are doing just that.

Surely, they can have the same rights that you enjoy without being labelled as "experts"?

i'm a believer of their innocence but i have to say this is a bit crazy!! their friends can not possibly claim to be experts and know more about the dogs than the experts!! i'm sure a trained dog knows what rubbish smells like in comparison to death! WHATS THE POINT IN USING THEM IF NOT! - SORRY CAPS

Well one thing we have learned is they have alot of friends and important ones at that.

BTW can you tell me what FFS is...maybe someone could email me because I often have wondered what that means. THANX

I fell for the Susan Smith story and then the Laci Peterson story so now I am quite a skeptic.

How could they possibly have sneaked the body out anyway.

obviously the kebab in the boot was their way of taking the heat off the true getaway vehicle
