I would ask what inspired him to write such an imaginative novel and if he was in any way trying to predict the distant future in his writing.

I would ask, "Do you think First Contact will result in friendship between our planets or war?" and "Whom do you think will be the first to attack if there is a war--Earth people or the aliens?"
