Who saw those old movies of the Russian at the east west German border saying papers

Or the Russian secret police and police police asking all the time to see your papers ?

Who has demanded papers from you, and under what circumstances?

I have to show ID when I pick up prescriptions - I have no problem with that. I have to show ID when I use my credit card - again, no problem with that. I have to show my ID if I get stopped by the cops - that would be *my* fault, so why whine about it?

If you *look* for things to be upset about, you'll find them. But based on the little info you've listed here, I'd say you're *really* looking.

Try yoga.

Edit - aren't you Canadian? If so - lovely country, great hockey - but why do you care what we do?

Edit - Thanks - I thought you were Canadian. No, we don't get stopped for no reason at all and asked for ID - at least I never have. But I also live in Alaska, and we really are a unique state.

I have been asked TONS of times for proper identification, had back ground checks done, drug testing on down the line. For everything from banking, jobs, to a traffic stop to serving on a jury, getting married, divorced, having kids. Where people get the idea that asking for proper identification is something new.....I don't know. Fortunatly it's not literally paper because mine would be totally worn out from all the times I've had to show them. I've had to drive to other states and go back home and get the "proper papers" to have things done. Only to find out they don't accept that anymore and have to get new ones........yes......I have to all the time.

I guess if there weren't so many people using false documents and trying to scam people right and left and lying so much.....we wouldn't have to. I remember a time when your word was good enough.......those days are long gone.

Yes, very much similarity.

And while the laws do vary by state, there is a general trend toward police being allowed to stop people and ask for ID, for any valid reason -- as long is the police intent is not harassment of particular individuals based solely on a bad faith intent.

Doesn't seem very likely. Local police are not allowed to check IDs to see if a person is legal or not.

I have no problems with id papers...none at all. I see no conspiracy. Perhaps you have been watching too many old movies, maybe try reading some history involving that time period?

Not really...anytime you get pulled over driving you have to identify yourself as well as show proof that you have insurance, tags etc...If you go into a bar you get ID'd. so I guess I'm not getting your comparison here.
