Anyone got any tips for keeping a Jack-O-Lantern from rotting into a puddle of mush after a week?

You could carve up one of those new plastic pumpkin shells instead of a real one.

Sometimes Vasiline on the cut parts can keep it from wilting a day or so, but there's no way to keep organic matter from rotting without freezing or laminating it, and even that doesn't always work.

Hon.. When are you carving it? I usually do mine only about two days before the holiday. That way they will be nice and fresh for the event and rotting won't be an issue later. I carve over 30 of them for my house, deck and yard and have been for 35 years. I grow my own too so they are as fresh as possible.
