There's no difference between the two things you have listed.

There are many different FLAVORS of *nix ... such as red hat or fedora, suse, darwin (mac OSX), ubuntu, solaris, etc etc etc

http://www.linuxsecurity.com/

good luck.

UNIX is just a specification of how a system should work. Linux is an implementation of UNIX so it is compatible with the UNIX security model. Of course, most unices(The plural of unix) do things a little differently and linux has added on some security things too(like capabilities). So I guess the answer would be Linux security but that is only because UNIX is not a kernel like linux and linux has expanded on it. However, in most cases, unices are at the same level of security.

Definetly Unix.

Ive used all of them for decades. I presently use linux on all of my servers and I love it to death. But for the question you asked, Unix.

Unix is older. And its open source so its kept up with changes right up to today. But Unix is a stuffy old crow. It concentrates more on power, security and stability. It has much fewer new toys.

Linux is prettier, many more toys, quicker to get into the new fun things being done on the net. But for that reason, it tends to be plugging holes alot more.

When an internet server company says they want to create a webserver or email server or news server.. and they want it large, secure, and stable so they can pretty much ignore it once its running... then I recomend unix to them.
