Your friends and contacts should be able to recognize you no matter how many times you change your avatar. I'm not sure about the general crowd, prob. depends on how well known you are.

I know a lot of people would if I brought one back, maybe someday soon. I think people recognize me more my my screen name than my avatar.

The people that know me would still recognize me unless I changed my screen name as well.

I changed my name, and people kinda lost me for a day or two. Usually they catch up if they are your contacts. and I did a make over once, but I warned everybody by asking what they thought I should do for my make over.

lol effective new p.c.. and of course I remember you, ur my little sister at here lol and Im ur weirdo brother that u decide to ignore approximately as quickly as I deliver u weird and wonderful messeges lol.
