Ummm... WHAT?!?!?!?

I think you got it mixed up - YOU are supposed to ask the questions, and WE are supposed to answer them. NOT the other way around ;););)

Others have given you some good questions so I will have more fun answering originalsmarties' questions.

1) The Milky Way is a huge aggregate of stars, gas, and dust. The only way we *wouldn't* be able to see it is if we were surrounded by a thick cloud.

2) Dec. 21, 2012, will be the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere for that year. All that Mayan calendar, prophecy of doom stuff is tabloid nonsense.

3) Ancient Greeks described it as the breast milk of the Goddess Hera, spread across the heavens. Thus the modern name, "Milky Way."

4) No one has directly observed a black hole, but there is plenty of evidence of their existence. And the theoretical framework is solid.

5) The plane of the solar system and the plane of the galaxy are not aligned and will never be aligned for probably millions of years. They're not even close. This is more of that Mayan calendar nonsense. Interesting how some people believe this when the Mayans had no clue what a galaxy was.

6) So far, black holes do not have names, but they do have astronomical designations. The best known is Cygnus X-1. You could consider that a name if you like.

7) Supermassive black holes, now believed to be at the center of many galaxies, do not "cause" the rotation, but because of their mass, they certainly affect it.

8) It will not only be possible for humans to colonize Mars, but I believe it is inevitable, *provided* we do not exhaust all of our resources or destroy ourselves.

Scientists say that the universe is somewhat like an expanding balloon. When asked "where is the center of the universe (where it all began) the spout off about this balloon idea. I don't buy it. In this universe there are at least three dimensions which create volume. There has to be a center of all this volume.
