Greece is surrounded by water since it includes several islands close to the mainland part. So naturally there were many fishermen there. They also grew grapes for wine and someone had to make the wine. They grew olives for the oil.

The Spartans Job was to keep as fit and mean as possible. They knew brutality well. Their main job was keeping the local tribes under control. In order to supply this army there had to be smiths, metal workers, carpenters,farmers, ship builders , the greeks had a formidable navy. Politicians as well.
